I found the Quiz and assigned reading, Wilson, J.
J. (2008). How to teach listening, pp 21-24 quite interesting as it gave
me a new perspective on the Listening skill and its importance. As it is stated
in Myth 2 that "our background knowledge sometimes overrides the acoustic
signal we hear", I think that it is very important to build up a
background knowledge of a language to understand it better and I can relate it
to myth 4, that lack of background knowledge is one of the reason listener
needs to pay their full attention to the message while listening to a foreign
language, however, listening skills are the same.
Another myth that surprised me is myth 6 because,
for me, it always remained doubtful that whether to use scripts of recordings
or not. Personally, I find scripts really helpful as it helps learners
understand the way language is spoken. However, I do agree that learner needs
to reach a certain level of proficiency to make use of scripts, else, attention
would be diverted to reading rather than listening and sometimes, they cannot
maintain the speed of reading so they feel lost.
