TESL 0120 Unit 4 Reflection

I had a lot to learn in Unit 4 and I spent maximum time on this unit. As we all know that most of the classes are multilevel, where students differ not only in their proficiency level but also in age, background, culture and many other things. Teaching such classes is challenging as a teacher needs to ensure that the needs of all the learners are met. While going through the assigned reading  "Promoting Success of Multilevel ESL Classes: What Teachers and Administrators Can Do", what really stood out for me is the grouping strategies for multilevel classes, it is very important for a teacher to determine when and what kind of grouping is required to ensure that the students get most out of it. I liked the idea of creating heterogeneous groups where advanced students can help the lower level learners to complete the activities. This helps them both. Former ones can practice what they already know while the latter ones can get extra help apart from the teacher. This gives both of them confidence and builds a sense of community in the class.
